I got an email today from a voter who said I would've earned her vote had I "not supported illegals".

A few thoughts immediately came to mind.

The first is I do not favor illegal immigration. A sovereign nation is entitled to have secure borders. We must, however, take a practical approach to this matter and I do favor letting those who are already here stay. They are not, however, entitled to the privilege of citizenship. That must be reserved for those who immigrated legally.

But what are we going to do with them? We weren't able to keep them out in the first place and we certainly aren't able to round them all up and send them home.

So let's put them to work. Give them a work card and let them build a life for themselves. They can pay taxes and buy a house and raise a family. America has always benefited from the immigrant's work ethic. Those who say otherwise have either forgotten the history lessons they learned in school or never learned them in the first place.

They are not, however, entitled to vote or obtain a passport or sponsor relatives, three of the biggest benefits of citizenship. If they want those things they can return to their native country and come here legally.

Something else I thought of was that if disagreeing on one issue going to cost me your vote, you were probably looking for a reason not to vote for me anyway.

I don't know about you, but I have never completely agreed on everything with any candidate I ever voted for. Well, except for me, of course. I agree with everything I stand for. I am voting for Gary Johnson for president despite the fact I disagree with him on a couple of things. That's all right. We must take a big picture approach to people we vote for. It is not reasonable to except to agree 100 percent with everything a candidate you are going to vote for believes in.

So don't let one issue scare you away. If you agree with a several, or even many, of my other positions, I probably deserve your vote.

Friends, you and I - we the people - are the only change on this ballot.

Our country needs our help.

I'll lead the charge
. Let's go!

Cordially,
Gaylon
