Every Death In The Iran War Is A Slaughter
It’s true that war has been mankind’s calling card since time immemorial. And the US has been at war for 208 of its 249 years of independence.
This does not make our war in Iran any less illegal or immoral. It is both. In spades. It was not declared by Congress as mandated in the Constitution, and, for goodness sake, we’ve bombed schoolgirls.
After a month of aerial bombardment, America has decided to send ground troops to Iran, with 2,000 to 3,000 members of the 82nd Airborne already on the way. The official plan is to have them accomplish specific missions, but war being war and President Trump being President Trump, there is no reason to believe combat won’t follow.
We’ve been the Peace Candidate since our 2014 candidacy for the US Senate. We oppose war in general unless the direct safety of our country is threatened, and we oppose all wars that have not been declared by Congress, which hasn’t happened since World War II. Needless to say, we oppose war with Iran. Every death, from the 13 US service personnel who have died o far to the 165 schoolgirls we killed, has been a needless slaughter.
There is no way this ends well. America has a long history of long, drawn-out wars in the region, and those were wars that actually had some semblance of a plan, something sorely lacking in our war with Iran, because they never posed an imminent threat to our way of life. America has been at war for 208 of its 249 years of independence. No nation has survived perpetual war, and America is not going to be the first.
We deserve better than this. We deserve better than perpetual war. But we are not going to get better government until we demand it on Election Day.
