Gaylon Kent
Libertarian For Congress
From Colorado's 3rd District
Like Club 20 a couple of weeks ago, the Pueblo Chieftain has decided their forum for Congressional candidates on October 20 is complete without me.

Their criteria is that only candidates who are polling at ten percent will be included. This is silly, because anyone who has ever taken a poll knows questions can be asked in such a way to get the answers desired by whoever is paying for the survey. Even independent polls can be guilty of this simply by only including the major party candidates. With some effort and money I could probably produce a poll that shows me leading.

For the Pueblo
Chieftain not to include me is petty and for us to accept this is wrong. I am on the same ballot they are; I should be on the same stage.

If you are one of the 33 percent of voters in the district that are independents, you should be demanding my inclusion because by definition you are open to what others have to say.

If you are a Republican or a Democrat you should be demanding my inclusion if for no other reason than to confirm what you already suspect. If I merely reaffirm your belief that I am third-party wingnut, OK, thanks for listening. But what if I don't? What if you like what you hear?

Regardless of your affiliation or who you plan to vote for, for us to accept the
Chieftain's decision means we are content to hear only what the Republicans, Democrats and Pueblo Chieftain choose to spoon feed us. We are nothing more than sheep being led to the electoral slaughterhouse, in violation of our duties as citizens.

By ignoring the demands of democracy, The
Chieftain is constituting a fraud on their readers and advertisers with their continued existence.

There are three candidates on the ballot and you are entitled to hear from every one of them. Anything less is Democracy's loss, an open invitation to Tyranny to come in and make itself comfortable on America's front porch.

So please, contact the
Chieftain and let them know you want to hear from all three candidates on October 20. General Manager Brad Slater can be reached at 719/544-3522 or email him at

Go, do it now. The future of our country depends on it. If we merely accept what others want to give us we deserve what we get on Election Day.
